Sunday Sundae with YelloFruit!

Over the past seven years I have learned the challenges of dealing with a dairy allergy first hand. When the twins were born, I had to avoid all casein to prevent passing any through my breastmilk and more recently I have wanted to help Clay feel as normal as possible while avoiding milk, milk products, and eggs in his diet. I work hard to alter baked good recipes purchase dairy free cupcakes to send with Clay to birthday parties, and make dairy free mac and cheese, lasagna, and pizza on a regular basis. I am passionate about my little man not feeling like he needs to miss out just because he has an allergy! In addition to this I work with clients all the time who want more variety in the allergen friendly products they buy. Allergies are very common so I am sure many of you can relate to these examples with respect to accommodating someone in your home or circle of friends. Or maybe for you it’s gluten free, peanut free, or vegan that you are on the lookout for. Bottom line, we want to ensure that allergies, intolerances, and lifestyle choices related to eating don’t stand in the way of anyone feeling fully part of food-relate experiences.

Every Sunday we have Sunday Sundae where I serve ice cream and toppings after supper. I usually make a dairy free option from scratch, but this is labour intensive and not always an ideal option. Over the past few weeks I have been serving him a new product called YelloFruit, a banana based frozen dessert. I absolutely love that this “ice cream alternative” is dairy free, made in a peanut-free facility, and is made from real bananas and additional fruit, contains less added sugar that other options we have tried, and has pea protein in it as well. Oh and did I mention it tastes AMAZING!!!! It’s not like anything else on the market and has become a staple in our home.

There are three flavours to choose from: Mango, Strawberry, and Chocolate.

While I have this on hand for Clay, who likes the strawberry best, my other two boys have been asking for it instead of regular ice cream too. Wes likes the mango best and Rhett likes the chocolate best. I love that they all enjoy YelloFruit and we can keep this plant-based dessert on hand for everyone to enjoy on Sunday Sundae or other times we want a refresher to cool off this summer.
